In February 2010, I opened a private psychotherapy practice, the TLC Center for Psychotherapy, in Beachwood. As an extension of The Leadership Company, a leadership development and consulting firm I founded in 1990, TLC Center for Psychotherapy offers children, adolescents and adults outpatient mental health services focusing on grief, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, conflict and anger management, family counseling, and school or workplace adjustment issues.
Adult Psychotherapy
My interest in the relationship between leadership, personal effectiveness and mental health grew out of my work in management, marketing and strategic planning, first as a consultant at McKinsey & Company and then as Director of Public Affairs at The Cleveland Clinic. Repeatedly, I observed that when individuals became aware of maladaptive behaviors or mood disorders that reduced their effectiveness at work, at school or at home, their symptoms of anxiety, depression and/or problems with self confidence, anger or conflict resolution began to improve. Helping clients discover their full potential is my therapeutic focus.
Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
As a parent myself and a long-term member of Laurel School’s Board of Trustees, I have a strong commitment to helping parents help their children work through the inevitable stresses and strains of growing up. I know that when a child is suffering, the whole family suffers. Similarly, when a parent is suffering, the child suffers as well. Helping families work through these issues using both one-on-one and family sessions is a passion of mine.
Training
I have coached managers in the workplace since 1990 helping them cope with anxiety, stress, grief, trauma or mood swings; resolve conflicts productively; mentor subordinates; and work effectively with colleagues and upper management. As preparation for the privilege of working with children, adolescents, families and adults in psychotherapy, I completed my Masters of Science in Social Administration (MSSA) from Case Western Reserve University in 2004 and my Independent Social Worker Supervisor licensure (LISW-S) in 2008. Before starting my private practice, I trained at The Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development in Shaker Heights and consulted at Hopewell, a therapeutic farm community for adults with mental illness.
Education
In addition to my MSSA from CWRU, I have a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, and a BS in Economics from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
